Please consider the following when sending or receiving email:
Never send personal or confidential information through an email. This includes passwords, social security number, credit card number, and bank information. Email is an inherently insecure communication method – anyone with the proper tools can read your email in transit!
If you ever receive an email requesting personal information, consider it suspicious. If you know the sender, contact them via another communication method and verify that the request came from them.
I will always sign the emails I send with at least my first name. I will never use a generic salutation like “System Admin”.
When in doubt, feel free to forward an email to me or print it off and put it in my mailbox. This includes chain letters for virus alerts, which are almost always spoofs.
